Talking Points

  • Every year, 2.1 million students drive while under the influence of alcohol. To address this alarming reality, colleges should implement lifesaving safe ride programs that transport inebriated students who would otherwise drive while intoxicated.
  • Safe ride programs act as a safety net to ensure that students who do drink aren’t putting themselves or other people at risk of losing their lives in horrible car accidents.

Colorado SB 20 (full text), which authorizes Legal Immunity to Drug Overdose Reporters, is on its way to Governor John Hickenlooper's desk right now! The bill will provide immunity for the victim and up to two callers in incidences emergencies involving drugs and/or alcohol. This is a huge step forward not only for Colorado, but for sensible drug policy in general.
