If students present a real risk to the physical safety of other dorm residents, are making it difficult for other students to study, or are damaging university property, they can and should be removed from the dorms. But colleges shouldn’t arbitrarily kick students out of their housing just because they were caught with drugs.
Having to search for another place to live after being booted from the dorms is stressful and time-consuming. Students should be focusing on their studies instead of having to look for alternative housing in the midst of busy semesters. Dorm eviction policies hurt students’ grades.
