Campus Change Campaign - Off-Campus Jurisdiction for Drug Policies
Talking Points
Colleges should not punish students
for off-campus behavior, and have no real jurisdiction to do so.
Colleges should do their important job of educating students instead of
looking for extra reasons to punish them.
Of
course colleges have a responsibility to hold students accountable for
their behavior on campus and at school-sponsored events, but they have
no right to invade students’ lives beyond the boundaries of
school-related activity.
How would administrators like it if students followed them home and monitored their off-duty behavior?
