As a conference attendee, you are expected to do your best to arrange your own transportation to the conference, but the SSDP National Headquarters is here to offer assistance if you need it.  In addition to potential travel scholarships, we can help you find the most affordable transportation options if you are an inexperienced traveler.  If you need more guidance than what is offered below, feel free to contact SSDP outreach director, Jon Perri, at jon@ssdp.org or (415) 875-9463.

This guide contains tips to get you started, as well as exact directions from major airports, highways, and train stations to the conference itself.

TRAVEL TIPS:

If you are in the western part of the U.S., you may consider carpooling or taking bus or rail. Try Amtrak or Greyhound . However, flying may be less expensive, so check all options before booking your travel plans.  

If you are flying, start by checking Kayak.com for the best rates (Kayak is a travel search engine that searches most of the major travel and airline websites for the best prices). You should also check to see if your area is serviced by JetBlue or Southwest Airlines, which usually do not come up on travel websites like Kayak, but often offer good rates. You can fly into any one of three nearby airports: San Francisco International (SFO), Oakland Airport (OAK), or San Jose International (SJC). Flying into SFO or OAK will be the most convenient.

From San Francisco International Airport (SFO)

Driving: From SF Airport or Oakland, take US101 N. Exit Right on Golden Gate Bridge/Mission St.,  Take left Van Ness Ave and the hotel is 1.5 miles on left.

From Oakland Airport (OAK)

 DIRECTIONS TO FORT MASON CENTER:

Driving:
East Bay: Take Bay Bridge to Fremont Street Exit; on Fremont (100 yards north) take first right on Howard; left on Embarcadero & go 2 miles; left on Bay & go 2 miles; right on Buchanan. Cross Marina Blvd. & sharp right into Fort Mason Center.

North Bay: Take Golden Gate Bridge (US 101) to Marina Exit; Marina Blvd (1.5 miles) to Buchanan & turn left into Fort Mason Center.

Peninsula/South Bay: Take US 101 North to 9th St. Exit; 9th across Market & left on Hayes; right on Franklin; left on Bay; right on Buchanan. Cross Marina Blvd. & sharp right into Fort Mason Center
