Alumni Director: Based in San Francisco, CA or Washington, DC

Application deadline: March 22nd, 2009

Students for Sensible Drug Policy is seeking a highly motivated, well-organized individual to become SSDP's first alumni director, who will be charged primarily with organizing SSDP's alumni network and fundraising.

Because this is a new position with SSDP, it will require someone with an intimate knowledge of our mission and network, so we have a strong preference for individuals who are current or former members of SSDP's chapters, board, or staff.

Although our intention is to fill the position starting in March or April, graduating seniors will be considered. If you cannot start full-time before May or June, you may be able to start on a part-time basis before graduation.

Duties of the alumni director include:

1) GROWING THE ALUMNI NETWORK: SSDP members who have graduated within the past ten years will be sought out and invited to join the alumni network. The alumni director will also develop methods to ensure that members join the alumni network before graduating.

2) INSPIRING ALUMNI TO DONATE: Alumni realize the importance of financially supporting SSDP, but most have yet to be asked for a contribution. The alumni director's ability to raise large sums of monthly donations will ensure that our staff continues to grow in proportion to our expanding chapter network.

3) FACILITATING ALUMNI NETWORKING: The Alumni Director will plan local happy hours and meet ups as well as national reunion events to promote networking among alumni. Alumni will also be encouraged to serve as mentors to local chapters.

4) WRITE AND PUBLISH OUR QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER: Chapter leaders and alumni will be profiled in our quarterly newsletter that will be sent to all chapters and alumni donors.

The alumni director reports directly to the executive director.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate is someone who exhibits the following qualities/abilities:

* Extreme comfort with asking others to donate to a cause they believe in.
* Exceptional interpersonal skills, particularly when meeting new people.
* The ability to communicate orally with comfort and conviction, particularly over the phone.
* Succinct, persuasive, inspiring writing, plus a close attention to detail.
* Comfort with working nontraditional hours (occasional nights and weekends).
* A proficiency with Facebook and Microsoft Excel (or similar software).
* A firm belief that students will play a key role in ending the War on Drugs.

A working knowledge of Apple products is valuable, but not necessary. For this position, we have a strong preference for individuals who are current or former members of SSDP's chapters, board, or staff.

How to Apply:

Interested applicants should e-mail a one-page cover letter and one- or two-page resume to Executive Director Kris Krane at jobs@ssdp.org. In your cover letter, please indicate (1) why you are interested in working with SSDP, (2) why you think this particular position is a good fit for you, (3) why, in your opinion, SSDP's alumni network is important, and (4) which of our offices you are interested in working from (San Francisco, CA or Washington, DC) and if your desired location is flexible. Feel free to include any additional information you deem relevant, not to exceed one page.

Salary is $32,000 - $40,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits include health care and the satisfaction that comes along with changing the world for the better.

Students for Sensible Drug Policy is an equal opportunity employer. SSDP has a strong commitment to diversity and, as such, women, people of color, LGBT individuals, and individuals who have been directly affected by the Drug War are encouraged to apply.

If you submit a cover letter and resume, SSDP will respond to you within three weeks with either a request for additional documentation, or notification that your application is being considered.
