Rocking Against Racism in New Paltz
SSDP NE Regional Conference

What do a Connecticut gubernatorial candidate, a reverend from Alabama, a former counsel to U.S. Congress, and a New York mayor have in common? They were all speakers at this year’s Northeast Regional SSDP conference, hosted by SUNY New Paltz SSDP. On April 28-30, over eighty student activists from around the region convened to learn about failed U.S. drug policy and discuss effective strategies for fighting back. A main focus of the conference was the racial impact of the War on Drugs, culminating on Sunday with SSDP’s annual music and activism festival at New Paltz, “Rock Against Racism.” The event drew in hundreds of people from the surrounding communities, bringing the message of drug policy reform to the masses.
