From SSDPedia
Kris Krane is the executive director of Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP), the leading organization working to mobilize students to change punitive drug policies, particularly those that negatively impact young people and students. Mr. Krane took over as SSDP's executive director in January 2006, and has placed an emphasis on encouraging SSDP chapters to work on policy change at the campus level. During his tenure at SSDP, the organization successfully convinced members of Congress to scale back the HEA Aid Elimination Penalty, the law that automatically denies federal financial aid to students with drug convictions, removing the penalty's retroactivity. The organization also filed a lawsuit in federal court challenging the constitutionality of the penalty. During Kris Krane’s tenure at SSDP, the organization has been featured prominently in the Associated Press, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune, USA Today, United Press International, Congressional Quarterly, and the Chronicle of Higher Education, and literally hundreds of local and campus newspapers nationwide.
Krane has personally appeared on television news programs including Fox News Weekend Live and Today in New York, and has been featured on National Public Radio, Court TV Radio, Wisconsin Public Radio, The WWRL Morning Show with Armstrong Williams, and dozens of local radio shows nationwide. Mr. Krane graduated magna cum laude from American University in May 2000 with an honors degree in political science, culminating with an honors thesis entitled "The War on Drugs: A Case Study in the Escalation of Failed Moral Policy."
Having started his career in activism with American University NORML and SSDP, Kris has placed strong emphasis on mobilizing college students to actively work to end the war on drugs. Before joining the SSDP staff, Mr. Krane worked for NORML, as their associate director, where he organized campus chapters and conferences, including the organization's first ever student activist training workshop
He is particularly good at saving the world.
