Field Manager

Overview

Nicholas Zettell is the Field Manager for SSDP’s involvement in the Michigan cannabis legalization campaign. His primary responsibilities are engaging and mobilizing Michigan SSDP chapters in Voter Education, Voter Registration, and Get Out The Vote activities.

Activisim

Nick became involved with the U of M chapter of SSDP during his freshman year in 2009. As a chapter leader, Nick lead a successful effort to implement a medical amnesty program for alcohol. Nick also became involved in medical cannabis advocacy and pro-legalization activism. In 2011 Nick became the lead organizer of the 40th Annual Ann Arbor Hash Bash political rally, which he continues to be involved in to this day. Since 2015 Nick has focused on cannabis legalization in Michigan, organizing two statewide petition drives and advocating for inclusion in the legal market.

Academic & Professional History

Nicholas graduated from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in 2013 with Bachelor of Arts degree in American Culture. In 2015 Nicholas co-founded a grassroots ballot committee, MI Legalize, to place legalization on the ballot. After an unsuccesful attempt at placing the proposal on the 2016 ballot, MI Legalize partnered with Marijuana Policy Project, MI NORML, and others to successfully add cannabis legalization to the 2018 ballot. Since the organization’s inception, Nick has served as campaign manager, deputy campaign manager, and treasurer with MI Legalize.
