Pell Grants in Prison: A Smart Investment

Pell Grants in Prison: A Smart Investment

Recently, SSDP partnered with the College and Community Foundation and joined the Education from the Inside Out Coalition, a broad coalition working toward restoring Pell Grant eligibility to incarcerated students. The above video explains why turning prisoners into students is a smart investment for society. Throughout the next few months, SSDP chapters across the country will be drawing attention to this important reform of the  criminal justice and education systems.

The EIO Coalition has just launched a new website with stories from those who have improved their lives by getting an education while in prison. You can also find out more information about this campaign, plus resources for student activists, in the campaigns section at SSDP.org.

If you want to help restore Pell Grant eligibility to incarcerated students, please sign our petition using Causes and keep a look out for new ways to take action in the near future.

You can also follow the coalition on Facebook and Twitter.
