Students for Sensible Drug Policy is happy to announce that Iulia Vatau ’20 has joined the team as a Global Fellow for Europe and the UN.

Iulia founded the University College London chapter and established a student-led harm reduction volunteering project based on the Just Say Know curriculum. She has been critical to the revival of Students for Sensible Drug Policy UK, managing the network’s involvement in civil society consultations with the UK Delegation to the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs.

In her time as an SSDPer, Iulia has also served as Chair of the Inaugural Board of Directors for SSDP International, co-chair of the Outreach and Membership Working Group, as well as part of the Core Team for Strategic Planning Committee.

A Romanian immigrant to the UK, Iulia is passionate about mobilising youth to better engage in civil society, as well as providing support for wider accessibility to lobbying and advocacy opportunities.

As Global Fellow, Iulia will assist SSDP members in successfully engaging with the policymaking process at the United Nations, acting as advocacy coach and as the organisation’s ambassador to international institutions and civil society committees.

If you want to partake in our advocacy efforts at the UN, make sure to watch this space as we will start circulating an interest form in the coming weeks.
