SSDP Action Center

Tell President Biden to Keep Your Promise!

Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP) has partnered with the Last Prisoner Project to conduct a series of actions aimed at pressuring President Biden to release the nation’s federal cannabis prisoners. We are seeking people who are ready willing and able to escalate pressure on the president until all our cannabis prisoners are home. Our demand is simple: “Follow through on your campaign promise to release all cannabis prisoners or we will remind the nation of your role in creating mass incarceration.” For more information on the nuts and bolts of clemency work please visit the Last Prisoner Projects “Time to heal” page and join their letter writing campaign Unfortunately President Biden will not take action unless pushed to do so by the people. Join us in building a movement disruptive enough to force him to follow through on his promise.

US Actions

Take action and tell your legislator to support cannabis reform today!

SSDP, as a founding member of the Cannabis Unity Coalition, the largest ever bipartisan coalition of cannabis justice advocates, will be on the ground in Washington, D.C. for Cannabis Unity Week from April 28th to May 1st. We will be meeting with our Representatives and Senators urging them to support the upcoming cannabis bills that are a step toward equity, economic vitality, and common sense policy.

We need your help! Whether you’ll be joining us or not, use this form to tell your legislator that cannabis policy reform is a priority and that we need them to support legislation that would help legalize cannabis at the federal level, release the thousands of cannabis prisoners still behind bars, and start the process of healing the harms caused by over a century of cannabis prohibition.

Join the Science Policy Committee

SSDP’s Science Policy Committee (SPC) is proud to be the largest home for young scientists advocating for drug policy reform and continues to strive to bring students, postdocs, and scientists at all levels together to work towards one common goal: sensible evidence-based policies.

SPC is co-led by scientists at the graduate and post-doctoral levels and ensures a collaborative effort to engage the public and our policymakers on the local, national and international level.

In 2024, the SPC took the DEA to court for an unprecedented 7-day long hearing to prevent the scheduling of two psychedelics, DOI and DOC, that are primarily used in psychedelic research.

ACT NOW

Stop the HALT Fentanyl Act

The HALT Fentanyl Act  would permanently place all fentanyl-related substances in Schedule I, create mandatory minimum sentences for offenses involving fentanyl-related substances, and impede important research into fentanyl-related substances.

The HALT Fentanyl Act is more of the same failed and draconian drug war policies that neither prevent overdose nor stop the distribution of fentanyl in drug markets, will tear families and communities apart, and perpetuate racial disparities in the criminal legal system.

Drug overdose is a public health issue that requires public health solutions based in scientific evidence, compassionate care, and civil liberties.

The House already passed the HALT Fentanyl Act. We must act NOW to stop this dangerous bill from becoming law.
