SSDP’s Gina Giorgio Interviewed On North Carolina’s Spectrum News 1

Gina Giorgio, SSDP’s Director of Strategy and Development and Founder of the North Carolina Psychedelic Policy Coalition, was interviewed by NC television news station Spectrum News 1 about the formation of the North Carolina Psychedelic Policy Coalition in her home state, and the impact that psychedelic could have on supporting mental health patients.

New psychedelic studies are underway at UNC Chapel Hill, and legislation in the North Carolina General Assembly is exploring interest of using psychedelic treatments for mental health across the state.

“Psychedelics were actually used with therapists in the 50s and 60s, which is not as commonly known,” said Gina Giorgio, founder of the North Carolina Psychedelic Policy Coalition.

Giorgio said 25 states have passed or are considering legislation to expand the medical use of psychedelics.

“We’re not creating a legal or recreation market, what we’re doing is creating a taskforce of experts and interdisciplinary individuals who can look at how these innovative treatments can be integrated into the North Carolina mental health care system,” Giorgio said.

The North Carolina Psychedelic Policy Coalition (NCPPC), a project of SSDP, is a grassroots coalition of professionals dedicated to supporting the expansion of psychedelic medicines in North Carolina, through therapy and research.

We are grateful for Gina’s leadership and hard work to educate the public around the potential of psychedelic-assisted therapies, and to end the stigmas around seeking support for one’s mental health. Learn more about NCPPC here.
