Apply to Become a Candidate for SSDP’s Board of Directors
Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP) is governed by a Board of Directors, which is composed of both current student and youth Elected Directors, who are active chapter members elected by our membership, and Appointed Directors, who are appointed by the existing Board. Together, they are responsible for crafting strategy for the organization, overseeing compliance and financial affairs, and overseeing SSDP’s Executive Director.
In 2026, the SSDP Congress will convene from March 6th-8th, and provide each chapter in the network the opportunity to elect new student members to the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors will also be seeking applications from those who would like to become Appointed Directors during this time. We strongly encourage all who believe they can commit to apply. Results will be announced in March.
Serving on the Board of Directors of SSDP is an invaluable, incredibly rewarding experience. You will play a major part in growing SSDP and helping to end the War on Drugs while gaining a unique nonprofit management experience.
Electing Student Members to the Board of Directors
SSDP Congress facilitates SSDP’s youth-driven agenda. Elected student and youth members and appointed alumni make up the Board of Directors; all are volunteers and each member serves a three-year term. Some of the responsibilities include crafting strategy for the organization, monitoring compliance and financial affairs, overseeing SSDP’s Executive Director, participating in the annual SSDP strategy summit, and conducting Congress. Appointed Director Applications Are Open
Appointed Directors are appointed by the existing Board. You do not have to be a student to apply.
These positions are open to SSDP alumni, chapter members, Ambassadors, or any professional that believes deeply in SSDP’s mission and values.
