How did you hear about SSDP?

Actually, I think my mom sent me the SSDP instagram page. She’s a therapist studying psychedelics and a big inspiration for me.

Why did you want to get involved/what made you decide to start a chapter?

It feels like I hear misconceptions about drugs all the time, especially being in high school. In my eyes, we never had an adequate education in that area, so I really just want to close that gap.

What has the reception been like on campus? From students, teachers, administration, etc.

Kids I work with in other activist clubs seem excited, but maybe a little confused on what I’m trying to do. I’m lucky to have a very on board advisor from the counseling department. Thank you Mr. Adams!

What are some of the things you have planned or want to plan for next semester?

I hope there’s an activity fair so I can bring in some new members with a table, and I want to have Just Say Know presentations and discussions open to anyone in the student body who’s interested. It would be awesome if we could put together some of our own modules as well. I also plan on reviewing my school’s drug policies to look for possible issues that we can talk to the new superintendent about. He’s advocated for the student voice so we’ll see how serious he is.

What is the most challenging part of your experience starting/running the chapter so far?

Probably just trying to explain myself and my goals to everybody. I’m a sixteen year old trying to teach other teenagers about drugs. Obviously, some people aren’t going to think it’s appropriate.

What is the most rewarding part?

Just knowing I’m bringing SSDP to a younger community than it’s typically in.

What are you most excited about for your chapter/school/state/region right now?

Honestly I’m excited for everything. I’m excited to open up a safe and honest environment that students can come to.

What is your vision for your SSDP? Where do you see your chapter in a year? In 4 or 5 years?

Hopefully in a year we’ll have a solid group of dedicated members. The year after that I’ll be leaving for college, so my main goal by that point is to have someone or multiple someones ready to take over. If whatever college I attend has an SSDP chapter, I’ll join. If not, I guess I’ll just start one!
