The Science Policy Committee (SPC) was founded in 2020 by now Drs. Elijah Z. Ullman and Lindsey K. Galbo-Thomma. As scientists studying the pharmacology of psychoactive drugs, they created the SPC to advocate and advance sensible drug policies that align with scientific data. This committee is co-led by scientists at the graduate and post-doctoral levels and ensures a collaborative effort to engage the public and our policymakers on the local, national and international level.
SPC has held numerous Hill Days in person and virtually, advocated for increasing scientific funding, created informational sheets on drug policy and criminal justice reform bills. In 2024, the SPC took the DEA to court for an unprecedented 7-day long hearing to prevent the scheduling of two psychedelics, DOI and DOC, that are primarily used in psychedelic research.
The SSDP SPC is proud to be the largest home for young scientists advocating for drug policy reform and continues to strive to bring students, postdocs, and scientists at all levels together to work towards one common goal: sensible evidence-based policies.
