DEA DENIES SSDP Right to Participate in Rescheduling Hearing
On May 24th, SSDP filed a legal intent to participate in the upcoming DEA ALJ hearing on marijuana rescheduling.
We sought participation because SSDPers represent virtually every community affected by federal cannabis policy: students pursuing degrees in cannabis science and business, researchers whose work has been obstructed by Schedule I, employees and entrepreneurs in state-legal cannabis industries, people directly impacted by cannabis arrests and incarceration, and young people in every state — whether cannabis is legal, medical only, or still completely prohibited.
And, of course, nearly a quarter of the record 43,000+ public comments submitted on marijuana scheduling — the largest response in the history of the Controlled Substances Act. — came through the public comment tool built by SSDP, the Drug Policy Alliance, and our coalition partners.
Earlier today, we received notice that the DEA will NOT allow us to participate. Instead, they have hand-picked only a few strident anti-cannabis, pro-drug war voices to participate: NO ONE who supports cannabis legalization will be allowed to speak.
But, SSDPrs will not remain silent. Join us in front of the DEA at 8 am on June 29th and let your voice be heard.
