New Jersey: Allow marijuana home cultivation

Legislation to permit the personal cultivation of cannabis for adults is pending in New Jersey.

S3582 / A5552 (the most comprehensive) would allow all adults to grow or possess up to six marijuana plants for personal use, and allow qualifying patients and caregivers who are 21 or older to grow or possess up to ten plants for therapeutic use, with a maximum of 12 plants per household.

Under current state law, growing up to five marijuana plants is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $25,000 fine.
